Atheist Billboard Defaced

June 28, 2010 by Brandon 3 Comments

We’re fast approaching the end of the month and I haven’t had any posts yet for June. Since the opening of this site, I’ve at least managed to have one post every month, so now is as good a time as any to put something up to continue that.

Today’s story comes from North Carolina, where a group called the Charlotte Atheists & Agnostics recently placed a billboard on Billy Graham Parkway. The billboard, which can be seen here, states, “One Nation, Indivisible,” which is fairly innocent. If I would pass it on the highway myself, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought, that is if I didn’t notice the web address in the bottom corner.

Of course, something is missing from the phrase, something added during the Cold War… Luckily, some people were kind enough to add the missing words via a can of spray paint. “Under God.”

Things like this always make me wonder how insecure religious people think their god is. Is the Christian god that egotistical that he needs his minions to vandalize a billboard? A billboard which didn’t even say anything negative about him, to boot. If I were the timeless creator of all things, I think I might let the small things such as that slide. But that’s just me.

Things like this remind me of something Ghandi said. “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Except I’d probably disagree with him on liking Christ, too. Let’s face it, the guy gave some really bad advice.

“Things like this always make me wonder how insecure religious people think their god is.”

Exodus 20:5 - You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me

So yes Brandon he is quite jealous and insecure. Also its good thing you’re not going to have kids.

    What a douche.

I mean, if I could bend the very fabric of reality to my will, I don’t think I’d care much.

    I know right

I always found the first part of the ten commandments in Exodus to be interesting. Moses’ writings basically affirms that “there are other gods, but hit the ignore button or I will pwn you.”

What is Fractal Wrongness?

The state of being wrong at every conceivable scale of resolution. That is, from a distance, a fractally wrong person's worldview is incorrect; and furthermore, if you zoom in on any small part of that person's worldview, that part is just as wrong as the whole worldview.
