Amusing Updates

June 21, 2008 by Brandon | 1 Comment

Two quick amusing updates.

#1) I was on my way to work today when a car in front of me had www.needgod.com painted in the back window. It made me laugh.

#2) On a call today, I helped an elderly woman fix her cable box. At the end of the call, she said to me, “Oh, Brandon? Remember. Jesus loves you.” I said thanks. Then I hung up and went on a rant about how I’m pretty sure Jesus does not love me. Specifically because I don’t really think there’s evidence to prove Jesus even existed as a real person. Oh well.

Oh, one more update. I’m officially a jockey in training. Pretty sweet stuff.

This is just beyond freakin’ nuts.

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) – A public school teacher preached his Christian beliefs despite complaints by other teachers and administrators and used a device to burn the image of a cross on students’ arms, according to a report by independent investigators. Mount Vernon Middle School teacher John Freshwater also taught creationism in his science class and was insubordinate in failing to remove a Bible and other religious materials from his classroom, the report said.

School board members were scheduled to meet Friday afternoon to discuss the findings by consulting firm H.R. On Call Inc., hired by the district to investigate. The report was released Thursday.

Busy Busy

I just wanted to make a quick post. Sadly, my new job is a bit busier than I thought, so I don’t really get the chance to post updates while at work like I thought I was going to, hence the lack lately.

More than that, I’ve started riding again recently. I used to compete in jumping shows about 13 years ago but stopped riding, and I’m just now getting back into it. The woman I work with is fantastic and is taking to meet another trainer on Sunday who is looking for a jockey. With my height and weight, I’m a perfect fit.

Yeah, that’s right. A jockey. So I might actually end up becoming a jockey, how cool is that?

In any event, I just wanted to give a quick update on what’s been going on.

I know this doesn’t have anything to do with religion or atheism, but I’m just in a bit of shock hearing the news that he is dead. Tim Russert was a news anchor for MSNBC and hosted the show Meet The Press.

Seriously people, you just can’t make this crazy stuff up.

An Israeli rabbi has declared giraffe meat and milk to be kosher, although his pronouncement is unlikely to have observant Jews clamouring to consume the exotic products, a daily reported on Friday. “The giraffe has all the signs of a ritually pure animal, and the milk forms curds, which strengthened that view,” the mass-circulation Yediot Aharonot quoted Rabbi Shlomo Mahfoud as saying.

The rabbi based his ruling on a recent finding by researchers from Bar Ilan University who took a milk sample while treating a giraffe at Ramat Gan safari park near Tel Aviv.

They found that the milk forms curds as required under Jewish religious law, a finding confirmed by another research institute, the daily said.

Giraffe meat is also considered ritually pure because the animal has a cloven hoof and chews the cud.

“Indeed, the giraffe is kosher for eating,” said Mahfoud, who was present when the researchers made their finding.

Yigal Horowitz, chief veterinary surgeon at the safari park, is not overly worried by the development.

“This doesn’t mean that tomorrow we are going to drink giraffe milk or eat soup made from giraffe necks,” the paper reported him as saying. “After all, this is an animal in danger of extinction.”

What is Fractal Wrongness?

The state of being wrong at every conceivable scale of resolution. That is, from a distance, a fractally wrong person's worldview is incorrect; and furthermore, if you zoom in on any small part of that person's worldview, that part is just as wrong as the whole worldview.
