I’ve been silent for quite some time, but I can’t let the story about the infamous Ground Zero Mosque go without weighing in on it.

The sheer amount of bigotry coming from the Right regarding this issue is staggering, so much so that it’s overflowing and forcing some cowardly members of the Left to side with the idiot masses. Like Harry Reid, who had the choice of either siding with the stupid in hopes of saving his seat, or standing up for what’s right.

It should come as no surprise that I’m completely in favor of building this mosque, and I find all of the arguments against it to be nothing more than thinly veiled fear-mongering. The very suggestion that we should not allow any religious group to build a place of worship on private property goes against the foundation of this country and everything it supposedly stands for. Of course, those who claim to so rabidly defend the Constitution are ironically the same group of mouth-breathers who are now rabidly doing their best to shred it.

I may hate religion. I may sometimes find the reasons people believe in invisible sky wizards to be silly, like believing in unicorns. Or faeries. Or anything else a 4 year old might think exists. But that doesn’t mean I think they shouldn’t have the right to believe it, or practice it. Our rights aren’t determined by a popular vote. That’s why we have the Constitution.

When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

Guess what? It’s here.

All religions are not the same. All religions do not lead down the same path, or achieve the same goal. You may notice that there are some similarities that many religions share with each other, but make no mistake, one of those similarities is divisiveness.

For whatever the reason, I’ve been thinking about people who seem to think that all religions are a path to the same end. It’s called pluralism. It might be because the Dalai Lama recently said on his 75th birthday that all religions basically preach the same message.

How horribly untrue this is. The fact of the matter is the similar concepts that religions sometimes share and get right, ideas of compassion and love, are not ideals exclusive to religion, but to human nature. And that is why religions also happen to contain those messages. One only needs to delve under the thin veneer that religions coat themselves in to discover the darker, deleterious truth.

Personally, I think that those who subscribe to this pluralistic ideal are simply people who are afraid to be wrong. Perhaps they think that this is the correct answer to Pascal’s Wager. If they think any path is the correct path, then they’re certainly hedging their bet. The only problem is that they aren’t taking into consideration that nearly every religion, especially the major world religions, go to great lengths to describe how everyone but themselves are wrong, and that they are the one true path. Heck, they can’t even agree amongst themselves most of the time. There are an estimated 38,000 unique denominations of Christianity alone. Which one is right? Which ever one you belong to, and the others are all wrong.

So let’s be realistic. The idea that there many wells, but one river is silly. People either think this in a vain attempt to win a false cosmic gamble, or they’re just pretentious, conceded pricks who think that they sound deep and meaningful when puking up this nonsense.

We’re fast approaching the end of the month and I haven’t had any posts yet for June. Since the opening of this site, I’ve at least managed to have one post every month, so now is as good a time as any to put something up to continue that.

Today’s story comes from North Carolina, where a group called the Charlotte Atheists & Agnostics recently placed a billboard on Billy Graham Parkway. The billboard, which can be seen here, states, “One Nation, Indivisible,” which is fairly innocent. If I would pass it on the highway myself, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought, that is if I didn’t notice the web address in the bottom corner.

Of course, something is missing from the phrase, something added during the Cold War… Luckily, some people were kind enough to add the missing words via a can of spray paint. “Under God.”

Things like this always make me wonder how insecure religious people think their god is. Is the Christian god that egotistical that he needs his minions to vandalize a billboard? A billboard which didn’t even say anything negative about him, to boot. If I were the timeless creator of all things, I think I might let the small things such as that slide. But that’s just me.

Things like this remind me of something Ghandi said. “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Except I’d probably disagree with him on liking Christ, too. Let’s face it, the guy gave some really bad advice.

God just got a little bit more useless as scientists have announced a stunning, and long anticipated breakthrough. Artificial life.

That may not mean to some what it technically means. No, scientists did not breed some Frankensteinian creature in lab. Instead, they pieced together some DNA to make a synthetic gene sequence, then used it to create a synthetic chromosome, which they then inserted into a host cell. The host cell took that genetic information and began to replicate, creating millions of copies.

Doesn’t sound like much, but trust me, we stand on the precipice of a new era with this discovery. Some people are concerned that we’ve overstepped our boundaries, and again we hear the cries of “Playing God.” But there is no God to play. We do as we will, and true, we must do so cautiously, but we are facing a future where synthetic cells can be created to produce vaccines, to eat cancer, and even create biofuels.

Detractors claim that in the hands of terrorists and the military, deadly new bioweapons can be created using this technology. But let’s face it, we’ve been in the business of killing each other ever since two tribes of sapiens existed. With or without this, we’re going to continue to kill each other through whatever means possible. We might as well surge forward with our technology and glean what benefits we can from it.

How kind of them.

At least one of The Beatles couldn’t care less, as Ringo Starr told CNN. Like myself, he thinks that the church has more important issues to deal with than forgiving a band for some comments made over 40 years ago.

It seems to me that in the wake of their massive abuse scandal, they’re attempting create some news worthy stories to divert attention away from the fact that the Pope is at the head of numerous abuse cover-ups perpetrated by the church.

If this keeps up though, I think I’m going to have to dedicate a whole category to the Catholics.

There seems to be a growing backlash against the Catholic Church, and more specifically, Pope Benedict, as their pedophile sex-abuse scandal continues to wither the public’s faith in them.

Yesterday, Pope Benedict’s birthplace in Marktl am Inn, was vandalized with spray painted obscenities referring to the scandal. The building was recently converted into a museum to honor the Pope. Authorities have since painted over the text, and unfortunately I’ve been unable to find exactly what was written.

Now obviously I have no idea if this was done by a Catholic, and odds are it wasn’t, but I think it’s a perfect demonstration of what I’ve been saying; the Catholic church needs to admit to their wrong doing, launch an investigation with full cooperation with the authorities, and Ratsinger needs to, at the very least, step down as Pope. There is no other way that the Church is going to gain forgiveness in the public’s eye over this.

It’s extremely unlikely that any of these things will occur, because the Church is in far too deep at this point. Instead, they’ll just keep blaming who ever or whatever they can, from the devil and Jews, to the media and homosexuals. Next thing you know, they’ll be blaming Obama.

At least the Catholics have one thing going for them, and that’s their acceptance of evolution. As one theology professor has learned, it’s pretty dangerous for you to openly admit to accepting evolution in some theology schools of “higher learning.”

Florida’s Reformed Theological Seminary has kicked professor Bruce K. Waltke out after a video blog of his surfaced. In the video, Waltke allegedly states that Christianity’s continued denial of evolution will “make [them] a cult.”

A pretty bold statement from a professor at a seminary with an explicit mandate on never mentioning evolution.

What I find so amusing about this is the blatant hypocrisy on display here. The religious right is bent on “teaching the controversy” in our public schools, that is, injecting intelligent design into biology classes so that students can have “both sides” of the argument. Yet when it comes to their schools, they’ll force a professor out for his private thoughts on the matter outside of the classroom.

I wonder what Ben Stein has to say about this. Perhaps he should make another documentary about religious schools not teaching evolution and firing professors who discuss the subject, because after all, the purpose of his film was simply to demonstrate the unfairness and bias in the education system. Right? Yeah, right.

The Catholic Church is on a roll; the other week, it was some esteemed Catholic exorcist blaming the Church’s pedophilia woes on Satan himself, but as we all know, there is only one thing more evil than Satan…

Wait for it…

The Jew.

Yes, the wily Jew is to blame. I mean, they’re so bad that they’re literally grabbing priests by the hands and forcing them to rub the private areas of children, all the while cackling nasally with glee.

At least, that’s what Bishop Giacomo Babini would like you to believe. In an interview that is too psychotic to make up, the retired bishop charges the “eternal enemies of Catholicism,” the Jews and the Freemasons, for concocting this hysteria over the Church’s “alleged” abuses. But mostly it’s those pesky Zionists. The good bishops says, “deep down, historically speaking, the Jews are God-killers.” God-killers indeed. That’s why I absolutely love the Jews. They do my work for me.

But Babini didn’t stop there, he also concluded that the Jews brought the Holocaust upon themselves, stating, “Don’t believe that Hitler was merely crazy. The truth is that the Nazis’ criminal fury was provoked by the Jews’ economic embezzlement, by which they choked the German economy. [Their] guilt is graver than what Christ predicted would happen to them, saying ‘do not cry for me, but for your own children.’”

I’m really enjoying watching this. Every day, a new article comes out with some new allegation, some zany denial of the allegations, or what have you. The Church just doesn’t get it, and I know they’re in trouble when I heard one particular person state that even they will no longer make any attempt to defend the Church from criticisms.

You know who you are. Welcome to the Dark Side. I baked cookies.

In other news, you may have noticed the new Retweet button on the blog, placed in an effort to utilize Twitter to gain more readers. If it annoys you, too bad, so sad.
